Déborah Berlioz has benefited from a uterus transplant and has just given birth to her second child. An immense happiness, but also a hope for many women.
Micha, two years old, come to visit his mother and his little sister in the maternity ward. The moment might seem banal, yet this happiness seemed inaccessible to the family. “Sometimes we pinch ourselves so much it’s unbelievable”declares Déborah Berlioz, the mother. A feat medical, because Déborah Berlioz was born without a uterus. In 2019, his own mother donated his organ to him for a transplant. A first in France, and it is a success.
Extend the practice to other patients
Little Micha was born by caesarean section in 2021, followed by Maxine, on February 17. Before learning about the possibility of this transplant, the young woman had given up on her desire for pregnancy. “With my husband, we said to each other that we already loved each other very much and that the most important thing was us”says Deborah. The transplant and the pregnancies were monitored by Professor Ayoubi and his team. This considers, “if the benefits outweigh the risks”to extend these indications to patients who have lost their uterus.
