Born in Italy in 1973, Beatrice Alemagna has lived in France since 1997. She “has worked for more than twenty years in the field of illustration and has brought to life texts by authors such as Almond, Apollinaire, Huxley, Lindgren, Queneau”, recalled the jury in a press release. The Big Dipper, the prize for which has existed since 2019, is awarded for the third time to a woman.
An international success
Prolific, Beatrice Alemagna has signed more than thirty albums, translated into a multitude of languages, the greatest successes of which are “A lion in Paris” in 2006, “Le marvelous Dodu-velu-petit” in 2014, or again “Un grand jour de rien” in 2016. The jury praised the variety of his drawings. “Paint, pastel, chalk, Indian ink, pencil, felt-tip pen or even collage, whatever the technique chosen, the designer favors strong and intense contrasts to convey sometimes difficult themes” as “identity, life’s journey, relationships with others, mourning, acceptance of aging”.
The Montreuil Book and Youth Press Fair is holding its 39th edition in this town bordering Paris, from November 29 to December 4. The theme is “The tectonics of bodies”, and the organizers announce “250 invited authors”.
