Biarritz Olympique, a Pro D2 rugby club, was sold to three former players, France Bleu Pays Basque learned on Friday April 5. Louis-Vincent Gave, the owner of the club since the summer of 2018, sold his shares during the night from Thursday to Friday to the trio Shaun Hegarty, Flip Van der Merwe and Marc Baget, according to information from RMC Sport, confirmed by France Bleu Pays Basque.

Louis-Vincent Gave and president Jean-Baptiste Aldigé therefore entrust the reins of the BO to three former players: Shaun Hegarty was center of the BO, Marc Baget was third row, and Flip Van der Merwe was second row and former Clermont player.

Last year, the sale of the club had already been aborted at the last minute by Romain Détré, a Limougeaud investor, recalls France Bleu Pays Basque. Since the start of the year, Jean-Baptiste Aldigé, mandated by Louis-Vincent Gave, was once again looking for a buyer for the club “for sale for one euro”after the failure of the project for a new San Sebastian stadium in Anoeta near the Reale Arena.

“I was notified by the buyersconfirms Maider Arostéguy, the mayor of Biarritz. It’s very good news, I’m very happy about it.” she confides to France Bleu Pays Basque. An official announcement is planned for Friday at 2 p.m. Shaun Hegarty will take over as head of the supervisory board. Flip Van der Merwe takes over as head of the board.
