Le 13 Heures et votre santé returns this week to several studies that highlight the benefits of reading. The point with Damien Mascret, on the set of 13 Hours.
Several studies determine that reading is beneficial for human beings. “Researchers in Atlanta, for example, have shown that brain connections are permanently improved after reading a novel”, says Damien Mascret. Reading has the effect of reducing stress “by 68% according to a study by the University of Sussex”. Reading improves concentration, reasoning and memory skills. It is rarer to have Alzheimer’s, if one reads frequently. Reading remains above all better on “a real book rather than a tablet”continues the doctor.
Reading aloud to children is important
Reading aloud remains essential for children when they are still young. “What we read must pass through the area of spoken language in order to be understood. This is why children read aloud. This is also why having your child read aloud is a great way to make them a good reader”, explains Damien Mascret. And no need for the doctor to simplify the texts. A study by Dr. Michel Desmurget shows that the vocabulary is less enriched and the sentences shorter. “Let’s not forget to enrich the vocabulary of children”concludes the doctor.
