The tragedy occurred last Sunday, according to information sent Wednesday by the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI). On October 9 around 4:30 a.m., a citizen informed the authorities of the presence of a woman possibly intoxicated and in distress, lying on the ground, near a school in Waswanipi, it is indicated. The police went to the scene, but did not locate the teenager in question. So they left the place.

Three hours later, other citizens made the sad discovery. The death of the 16-year-old young woman, unconscious on the ground, was found on the spot.

The BEI will investigate the circumstances of this intervention involving the Eeyou Eenou Police Service (EEPF) and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
