The Beasties of Reims win their roller-derby tournament this Sunday and celebrate their 10th anniversary

The Beastie de Reims organized their first roller-derby tournament of the year at home against their competitors from Amiens and Paris. Meetings organized on the occasion of the ten years of existence of the club, which won these two matches this Sunday at the François Legros gymnasium in Reims.

Created ten years ago in Reims, the club of Beastie now has 27 licensed players and 45 members. roller derby is a contact and speed sport that is practiced on roller skates on an oval-shaped track. Both teams must prevent their opponent’s “jammer” from advancing and scoring points.

This Sunday, the players celebrated the tenth anniversary of their club by receiving at home for the first time this year: “çIt gives us great pleasure, both the players and the fifteen volunteers who make this event possible. It puts glitter in our eyes but also in our hearts exclaims Agathe Lesueur, president of the club. The friendly tournament comprised three matches: the Reims won 137 to 60 against Amiens then 129 to 101 against Paris. The Parisians won 134 to 65 against Amiens.

It’s not just the ball in life, there’s also roller-derby!

Everyone is welcome to discover this sport, specifies the player, there is no specific template: ” A good player is someone who wants to have fun, who loves competition but also living it together, who accepts others. The important thing is that when we train, we are a team, a family. We share the same values ​​as any team sport, just like those who play with a ball! » complements the club president.

Next season, the players hope to be able to return to the format of the French championships as it was designed before the health crisis, to be able to participate again.

The trainings of Derby take place three times a week at the François-Legros gymnasium, on Monday and Thursday evenings and on Saturday mornings.
