The selection of the BD High School Students Prize in Bastia

Pre-match, of Noémie Chust, a comic book published by Fidèle

The story, accompanied by energetic and colorful stencil drawings, all in shades of mauve and orange, takes place the day before the fencing match that awaits Corky. At the same time as doubt arrives, the fear of not being in good shape, the fear of losing, the young woman opens up to her friend Violette. One is a fighter, the other is all about sensitivity. The pre-match also symbolizes the narrow border between late adolescence and adulthood, and also between friendship and love.

Robbie, Olivier Bruneauaux and Emilie Gleasoneditions, Virages Graphiques editions

Olivier Bruneau, for whom this is his first comic book script, and Emilie Gleason, Revelation Prize at the 2019 Angoulême festival for Ted, funny coconut faceare also selected with Robbie.

Apart from a little fluorescent on the cover, color, you won’t find any in this comic book which tells the story of an undead! Robbie, 12 years old, wakes up one morning in his own grave, he has become a Zombie! With the help of Carrie, a young, slightly fanciful artist of his age, he will try to understand the reasons for her death. “If life is not fair, neither is death.”That’s what Robbie discovers the meaning of his death while searching. A very “crazy” and very endearing comic strip!

The big incident,
by Zelba, a co-edition of Editions du Louvre and Futuropolis

The author, of German origin and who studied at the Beaux-arts de St Etienne, explains in the afterword: initially, this comic strip was commissioned by the Louvre. Zelba quickly notices that in more than two centuries of history of the Louvre, no woman, before Laurence des Cars since 2021, had been in charge, just as there are almost no female artists on display. .

Added to this the imbalance in the number of naked women visible, compared to the male sculptures in the different rooms of the museum, it was enough to imagine this burlesque story, this “fantasticomic” tale, as she calls it – even. And it’s true that we laugh a lot, following this rebellion of the statues of the Louvre, who are fed up with having often been mistreated throughout art and the centuries.
