Monday, June 20, the day after the second round of legislative elections, the political forces are already positioning themselves for key positions in the National Assembly. At stake: the presidencies of the National Assembly and the Finance Committee, as journalist Thierry Curtet explains, live from the Palais Bourbon.
The Nupes, 133 deputies and the National Rally, 89 deputies, are each fighting to be the first opposition force to Emmanuel Macron. And it’s not just for display. Indeed, there is at stake the presidency of the finance committee which is up to the opposition. This is a particularly important position, because the chairman of this commission has expanded investigative powers, particularly in terms of public accounts, as explained by journalist Thierry Curtet, live from the National Assembly, Monday, June 20 .
Traditionally, this position goes to the most numerous opposition group, hence the demands of both the national rally and the Nupes, but nothing says that it will go in this direction. The three opposition blocs will vote next week and a compromise candidate could emerge to win the second round. The presidency of the National Assembly also whets the appetites, but this time of the members of the majority. Three names circulate, those of Olivier Véran, Barbara Pompili and Yaël Braun-Pivet.
