For the first time, the operator Renfe rallies Spain to France. Thursday, July 13, the first TGV left Barcelona (Spain) at 8:22 a.m. for a five-hour journey towards Lyon (Rhône). The train also serves Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), Montpellier (Hérault) or Valence (Drôme). For Spanish passengers, the price is the main advantage of this new company. “We paid around 50 euros for the round trip”explains one of them.
Soon a direct Madrid-Marseille line
Since the announcement of this new link, 43,000 tickets have been sold. The boss of the operator hopes for even more with other destinations. “Our goal is to internationalize Renfe, to enter France and to connect Paris”, did he declare. The company will continue its offensive on French rail, also offering a direct line between Madrid (Spain) and Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) from July 28th.
