(Quebec) The Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks lifted late Sunday afternoon the ban on lighting open fires in Quebec in or near forests which has been in effect in Quebec since May 7th.

This decision, which was announced in collaboration with the Société de protection des forêts contre le feu (SOPFEU), was taken given that Quebec was deprived of precipitation for several days in a row and that the weather forecasts of Environment Canada announced dry weather, which increased the risk of forest fires.
On Sunday, nine forest fires were active in Quebec, but they were all under control.
Since the start of the protection season, 232 fires have affected 234.2 hectares. The average for the last ten years at the same date was 128 fires for 106.7 hectares of forest.
