The Rouen Court of Appeal made its decision on Thursday February 3: the spouses Balkany are returned to prison. The couple did not respect all their obligations related to the electronic bracelet. As soon as the verdict was announced, Isabelle Balkany made a suicide attempt, her husband denounces a relentlessness.
It was in the shelter of their property in Giverny (Eure) that they learned of their return to prison on Thursday February 3. Patrick and Isabelle Balkany were sentenced in 2020 to three years in prison for massive tax evasion. Due to their state of health, the couple had been placed under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. The sentence adjustment was revoked by the courts: the couple did not respect the conditions, the bracelet rang a hundred times in less than a year. Patrick Balkany defended himself on RTL: “It’s all bullshit.”
His wife made a suicide attempt according to her husband, she was taken care of at the hospital in Evreux (Eure). In Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine), the announcement of the return behind bars of the former mayor divides the inhabitants. The couple now has five days to appeal. A decision that would not prevent their incarceration.
