The awakening of the XV of France, Duplantis always higher, the coup de force of PSG … What to remember from the sports weekend

This weekend was marked, among other things, by the new surge of Armand Duplantis, and by that of PSG in the Ligue 1 standings after their victory in Marseille.

The weekend began with Perrine Laffont’s demonstration on the bumps, it continued with a new world record for Armand Duplantis, before giving way to the burst of the XV of France against Scotland. Sunday evening, to conclude, PSG banged their fists on the table by winning on the lawn of OM. Franceinfo:sport sums up everything you shouldn’t miss this weekend.

Mbappé-Messi, an absolute classic

We promised hell to PSG before going to challenge Bayern in the Champions League. The Parisians were able to overcome the first hurdle by winning on the lawn of OM (0-3) and pushing the Marseille rival to 8 points after this victory. A success that bears the mark of Kylian Mabppé and Lionel Messi. The two attackers took the opportunity to score highly symbolic goals: the first, author of a double, thus joined Edinson Cavani among the best directors of the club (200). The Argentinian, meanwhile, simply scored his 700th club goal in all competitions. Round accounts make good friends.

A difference Mondo

Between him and the competition, a black hole. Armand Duplantis is alone on his planet. The Swede once again pushed the limits of gravity to improve his own pole vault world record (6.22m) on Saturday. This leap was, moreover, made in Clermont-Ferrand, on the lands of Renaud Lavillenie, organizer of the event and who was the first to throw himself into the arms of Duplantis.

A XV of France in 4X4 mode

This French team is definitely all-terrain. After getting bogged down in Ireland two weeks ago, she managed to get out of the Scottish peat (32-21). The path was however marked with obstacles: an undefeated opponent and in full confidence, a numerical superiority soaring following a senseless act by Mohamed Haouas…

But the men of Galthié stood up. Solid in defense, skilful in counter, they returned to the fundamentals which had laid the foundations of their recent successes. It remains to find a greater possession of the ball if the XV of France wants to continue to pass the bumps without too many problems.

Perrine Laffont at the top, Clément Noël back

She is insatiable. Already at the top of the World Cup standings, Perrine Laffont took advantage of the Worlds in Bakuriani, Georgia, to win two new gold medals, and bring her total to 5 at the World Championships. Defending champion in the singles event, the Frenchwoman flew over the final on Saturday, before reiterating in parallel this Sunday. With this double, Perrine Lafont closes in a beautiful way the crossed out page of the Olympic Games, where, after having failed in 4th place, she had for a time considered ending her career.

If the success of Perrine Laffont was hoped for, the 3rd place of Laura Gauché, Sunday, during the descent of Crans-Montana, comes as a major surprise. At 27 and for his 111th start, the Habs completed the race of his life to sign the first podium of his career behind the Italian duo Goggia-Brignone. Later in the day, Clément Noël grabbed his third podium of the season in slalom with a third place in Palisades Tahoe (United States).
