The Avalanche win 5-3 against the Stars and force a sixth game

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar scored two goals to help his team win 5-3 against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday night and force a Game 6.

The Stars now lead the series 3-2. The sixth game will be played Friday evening.

Casey Mittelstadt scored the game-winning goal for the Avalanche, who had lost three straight games to the Stars. Mittelstadt scored just 1:12 into the third period to make it 3-2.

It was then the first time that the Avalanche had the lead since the start of the series. The team won its other game, the first of the series, on a goal by Miles Wood in overtime.

After scoring to tie the score at 2-2, Makar found the back of the net again when he made it 4-2. His decisive net passed between the pads of Stars goalie Jake Oettinger.

Nathan MacKinnon scored with 3:10 left in regulation. Artturi Lehkonen, who assisted on MacKinnon’s goal, saw the latter prepare his net earlier, in the first period, on the power play.

Alexander Georgiev stopped 23 shots for the Avalanche. Oettinger made 22 saves.

Joe Pavelski scored his first goal of the playoffs for the Stars. Miro Heiskanen and rookie Logan Stankoven also made the red light shine. Pavelski beat the goalkeeper with a backhand shot.
