The Avalanche climb the standings | The Journal of Montreal

In the only game presented in the afternoon in the National Hockey League, the Colorado Avalanche triumphed by the score of 4 to 2 against the St. Louis Blues.

For Jared Bednar’s men, it’s their second victory in three games against the Blues this season.

“It was a good game on our part,” said the Avalanche pilot, according to the “Denver Post”. In the third period, we worked hard and were aggressive. It’s not our first game against them, and that’s what allows us to develop a rivalry.

In the first period, the Avalanche scored twice against goalkeeper Jordan Binnington, who was in a state of panic at the end of the game.

Meanwhile, towards the end of the second period, tempers flared when the Canadian goaltender came out of his semi-circle after the whistle to hit Logan O’Connor with the stick.

“I love it,” Binnington said of the boos he received during the game. It’s loud, 18,000 people hating you. But that doesn’t bother me.”

Celebrating his 22nd birthday on Saturday, forward Alex Newhook gave himself a gift by scoring his 12th goal of the season on his own throwback.

The Newfoundland native thus became the first player in the history of the Avalanche organization to score a goal on two consecutive birthdays. Last year, the former first-round pick hit the target on Jan. 28 against the Chicago Blackhawks.

JT Compher in the first period and Evan Rodrigues in the second period also scored for Colorado.

The Blues began a comeback midway through the second period when Saskatoon native forward Brayden Schenn eluded the vigilance of Alexander Georgiev with an extra man.

Former Moncton Wildcats Ivan Barbashev also put his name on Craig Berube’s men’s scoresheet.

In his second game since being reacquired by the Avs, Matt Nieto ended all hope for the Missouri team by scoring in an abandoned cage with two seconds left in the duel.

The Avalanche therefore won a fourth game in its last five meetings and temporarily climbed to third place in the Central Division. For St. Louis, this is the fourth consecutive loss.
