How far will Austria go? Despite their defeat against Les Bleus on the first day, Ralf Rangnick’s men finished top of their group ahead of France and the Netherlands. In the round of 16, they will face the Turks on Tuesday, July 2 at 9 p.m. in Leipzig. Outsiders before the Euro, the Austrians have confirmed their status. With a great generation with players like Marcel Sabitzer, Konrad Laimer and Christoph Baumgartner, they are now among the favorites in their part of the table.
Against them, the Turks came out of the group stage without shining. After a first victory snatched against Georgia (3-1), Arda Guler’s teammates secured their ticket to the last 16 thanks to a victory in added time against the Czechs (2-1). But in the meantime, Turkey learned a lesson against Portugal (0-3). Against a very good Austrian team, Arda Guler and his teammates will have to raise their level of play to have a chance of reaching the quarter-finals.
