Louis, Cloé, Paul, Justine and Irène all have a mental handicap, and come to realize their dream: to leave their parents to settle in their own apartment. They now share moments in common, while maintaining their independence.
In her new apartment, Cloé Monclin, 24, with Down syndrome, quickly found her bearings. A small cocoon of 50m2, which she has decorated to her liking. It was his mother, Stéphanie Monclin, who initiated the Mon clin d’oeil à toi’t project. “The needs are no longer the same. (…) Young people no longer necessarily want to find themselves in a home, in large collectives”she explains. The residence welcomes five young people with disabilities. Everyone rents their own apartment there. Easy to access, the building is located very close to transport and shops. Their salary, of around 600 euros, makes it possible to finance the rent and the charges, ie 250 euros per month. A facilitator is present daily in a room of the residence.
Other projects allow young people with disabilities to reconnect with their autonomy: Thierry Marx has notably set up a second-chance cooking school, which trains, among other things, people with disabilities. The “Happy Cafés” give work to people with disabilities. In addition, the beguinage brings together private accommodation, around a garden and common areas. The principle ? Mutual aid. They “develop more and more in small municipalities”says journalist Valérie Heurtel, present on the set of 13 Hours, Thursday July 7.
