This does not mean that the procedure is obsolete, but it is a first setback for La France insoumise. During a vote on Wednesday October 2, the Law Committee of the National Assembly opposed the proposal for the impeachment of Emmanuel Macron, tabled by the movement of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The rebellious deputies criticize the President of the Republic for not having respected the result of the legislative elections by dismissing Lucie Castets, the candidate of the New Popular Front, for the post of Prime Minister.

Fifteen deputies voted in favor of this text aimed at bringing the head of state before the two united chambers of Parliament, with a view to dismissal for “breach of duty manifestly incompatible with the exercise of his mandate”while 54 other elected officials opposed it. The conference of political group presidents must now decide, within 13 days, whether the text nevertheless advances to the next stage, that is to say an examination in the hemicycle.
