The ascent of Mont-Blanc is strongly discouraged. The drought makes the main access route very dangerous, and the guide companies have suspended the activity. Explanations.

During the summer season, the announcement is no longer surprising. In recent years, the prefecture of Haute-Savoie had already published press releases to advise against the ascent of Mont-Blanc by the normal route, due to exceptional climatic conditions. “Today, the conditions are a bit unusual. We are witnessing rockfalls, throughout the day and night. And these rockfalls tumble down the Goûter corridor, which is the ascent corridor for The Mont Blanc”notes Bertrand Host, commander of the PGHM of Haute-Savoie.

Rockfalls in the mountains are common. On June 22, a mountaineer was killed under the Couloir du Goûter. What is new is that the phenomenon occurs at all hours of the day and night, and a month in advance. The guides of Saint-Gervais (Haute-Savoie) and Chamonix (Haute-Savoie) have therefore decided to suspend the ascents by the normal route. Saturday June 18, the Italian meteorological station, installed a few dozen seas under the summit of Mont-Blanc, recorded more than 10 ° C. Never had such a temperature been recorded at 4,800 m.
