Freezing rain and snow disrupted traffic in northern France on Wednesday. 21 departments are on orange alert, including 19 for snow and ice.
The north of the country was draped in white on Wednesday January 17. In all towns in the region, snowfall reaches 10 cm. In the countryside, on the ground, there is immense chaos, and hassle on the roads around Maubeuge (North). In the evening, even the snowplows are surprised. “We have the technical means, but the elements are beyond us“, confides an agent.
In Pas-de-Calais, the snow episode is synonymous with desolation for those affected by historic floods. “It’s already completely full of mushrooms, so it’s going to get worse“, deplores a man. For many French people, the day began with freezing rain. In the East, the roads turned into an ice rink, with serial accidents. Place Stanislas, in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle ), many people slipped.
