The words are written in black on white on the press release: “voluntary homicide”. This is how the public prosecutor of Angoulême describes the act committed this Sunday, August 9 in Charente, in the town of Mosnac-Saint-Simeux, located between Cognac and Angoulême. Very early in the morning around 5 a.m., as a birthday party is ending, two guests come to blows. One of them, aged 35, dies. In the aftermath, a man was arrested and taken into custody. At the end of his hearing, the prosecution decided on Tuesday August 9 to indict him for murder. He is remanded in custody.
Heavy blows to the head
In a statement, the prosecution details the elements that led to this decision: “this qualification results, at this stage, from the elements collected relating to the location and the violence of the blows, as well as to the supposed remarks made by the aggressor during the evening”. It was above all the hearings of the participants in the evening and the interrogations of the suspect which made it possible to clarify the circumstances. The man charged did not no criminal record.
Now the investigation continues. The victim’s body was autopsied this Tuesday, August 9. The investigations are entrusted to the research brigade of the Cognac gendarmerie.
