Friday May 17 in Rouen, a man was shot dead by police officers after attacking them. He was trying to set fire to a synagogue.
Smoke still escapes from the windows of the synagogue in Rouen (Seine-Maritime). At 8 a.m. on Friday May 17, firefighters were still working to put out the fire. An hour earlier, an individual climbed the wall and threw an explosive device through the first floor window. Inside, the woodwork immediately caught fire. The man allegedly tried to attack the police when they intervened, according to Frédéric Desserre, secretary of the West Zone Unit, in particular “taking a large kitchen knife in his sleeve.
The man was shot. The police officer who shot the attacker was immediately taken into custody. The camera he carried with him filmed the scene, and provided the context to the Rouen public prosecutor, Frédéric Teillet. The images establish according to him “that this police officer used his weapon under the conditions permitted by the internal security code. His custody will therefore be lifted.at the end of his hearing“. The definitive identification of the attacker is still in progress.
