“The appointment of Michel Barnier [comme Premier ministre] hastened my return to Dunkirk”confided the resigning Minister of Transport Patrice Vergriete on France Bleu Nord on Friday September 20.

The resigning minister was in charge of Transport but also of Housing, he was considered to be part of the left wing of Gabriel Attal’s government.. “When I heard that Laurent Wauquiez, David Lisnard or Bruno Retailleau could become ministers, I didn’t see myself sitting in the Council of Ministers next to them, so it’s true that the appointment of Michel Barnier hastened my return”he concedes.

A municipal council will be held on Friday, September 27, during which the municipal councilors will have to re-elect Patrice Vergriete as head of the city, so that he can regain his seat as mayor of Dunkirk.

He also assures that “The desire to return to Dunkirk has surpassed the desire to pursue a ministerial mission. Let’s say that the appointment of Michel Barnier has also accelerated things, hastened my return, but I am very happy to return to Dunkirk”.

Patrice Vergriete was not offered any position in the new government: “I had not yet been offered [de rempiler] so far, but I know there are discussions going on, they were able to offer me something but my mind was made up and it was ridiculous to be able to consider anything, I really wanted to come back, so that rushed things along”he concluded.
