The performances in Paris of the latest show by actor Édouard Baer, questioned by six women who accuse him of “harassment and sexual assault” in Mediapart, were “canceled“, indicated the theater, Wednesday May 29, in an email to spectators who had reserved: “The Théâtre Antoine regrets to announce the cancellation of the performances of the show My application planned for June and July“, is written in this dated email consulted by AFP.
This message was sent a week after the publication of a joint investigation by Mediapart and the feminist media Cheek, in which six women, anonymously, accuse the actor of harassment and sexual assault. The play, which was to be performed on around fifteen dates in June and July, was no longer offered on Thursday May 30 on the theater’s website.
When contacted, the Antoine theater declined to comment. It offers spectators a credit or a ticket for another show.
In the joint investigation by Mediapart and Cheek, the six women describe facts of “harassment and sexual assault“, over a period “spanning from 2013 to 2021 (…) mainly in professional contexts“, namely in his Parisian office, around theatrical performances or on the sidelines of broadcasts on Radio Nova or France Inter, in Paris. None of these six women, aged around twenty at the time of the events, filed a complaint, specify the two media.
“I do not recognize myself in the words or gestures attributed to me, but I can only express my regret that my behavior made these women uncomfortable or hurt. I didn’t have the intelligence to perceive it. I am deeply sorry. I never intentionally tried to hurt them. I apologize to them“, the actor said in a written statement to both media outlets.
The actor played another show in Romans-sur-Isère on May 24 then in Vevey in Switzerland on Tuesday 28. This show is also on show in Roubaix this Sunday June 2 and in Antibes on June 14 and 15, with tickets still on sale Thursday afternoon.
Édouard Baer, 57, revealed by radio and then television in the 1990s, has led an eclectic career as a presenter, actor in cinema and theater, director and director.
His last role in the cinema had him play the painter Salvador Dali, among other actors who played the same character, in Daaaaaalí! by Frenchman Quentin Dupieux, released in February.
