The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) announced on Friday February 2 the opening of an investigation in France after the death of two French people in a Russian strike. According to the Quai d’Orsay, the two victims, killed Thursday in Beryslav, in southern Ukraine, were humanitarian workers. The investigation was opened for war crimes and willful harm to the life of a person protected by international humanitarian law in particular. Emmanuel Macron denounces a “cowardly and unworthy act”. On the social network the president announced “his solidarity” towards “all the volunteers who commit to helping the populations”.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs points to “Russian barbarism”. Stéphane Séjourné is the first to have officially confirmed on “two French humanitarians paid for their commitment to the Ukrainians with their lives.” Statements which corroborate those of the governor of the Kherson region, Oleksandr Prokudin, posted Thursday on Telegram: “Foreign volunteers were killed and injured due to an enemy strike on Beryslav.”
An investigation opened for violation of the laws and customs of war following the strike. This announcement comes from the Ukrainian National Police, which posted a message on its Telegram account on Thursday evening.
