“The anti-intrusion alarm does not exist everywhere”deplores Saturday March 16 on franceinfo Sophie Vénétitay, general secretary of SNES-FSU while a 15-year-old schoolboy threatened the principal of the Édouard Herriot college in Chenôve (Côte-d’Or) on Friday with a knife.
The principal triggered the establishment’s anti-intrusion device: “We really must salute the courage and coolness of the principal and all her colleagues”, underlined the trade unionist. Schools carry out alert and containment exercises several times a year: “Securing establishments cannot rely solely on the composure of staff. We see that there is still a need to secure our establishments”specifies Sophie Vénétitay.
A little more than 20% of middle and high schools not yet equipped
The intrusion alert is triggered by a button which is sometimes connected to the police station or the gendarmerie. “It is an alert that can be given via the digital work environment, that is to say our internal software”she explains. “The person who entered the establishment does not see it. This avoids having an audible alarm which could give an indication”she recalls.
After the attack in Arras in the North, Gabriel Attal, then Minister of National Education, took stock of the security of educational establishments: “There were still middle and high schools which were not equipped with an alarm system in the event of an intrusion, a little more than 20%”alerts Sophie Vénétitay. “Despite the promises that Gabriel Attal made to us, we still do not know if we have really made progress on this subject”, deplores the trade unionist. According to the latest government figures last week “150 establishments had been equipped, but we still do not know if all establishments are equipped”, explain.
