“The animal cause”, Alexia Renard

Alexia Renard was not always vegan. This is the evocative power of a novel, Defeat of masters and possessors, who convinced her that the only avenue towards global justice between the various forms of life rested on veganism. Thanks to his essay, The animal cause, she in turn hopes to invite us to “a world without gratuitous suffering towards the living”, reminding us “that what we put on our plates is a political question”. Its demonstration, accessible, educational and lively, demystifies animal ethics by intertwining its historical roots, its terminology, as well as its philosophical and moral relationships with other militant struggles. More than a manifesto, his essay proves to be an excellent guide to citizen training, arming our critical mind with tools to better understand social issues — and its consequent debates. The plea has a few blind spots, but is an excellent introduction to a fundamental subject.
