It is a wind of anger, and even of sling, which blows on the Montreuil flea market. The puciers did not take off after the presentation of the project to renovate the Porte de Montreuil to the press. If they are for a renovation of this space, they say they discovered at the same time that the market relocation project has been revised downwards.
Fewer locations, more help
“Initially, when it was validated by the grand jury, we had to go to a covered building, on two levels, explains Djamel Zidani, the president of the puciers de Montreuil. There were to be 356 spaces, nearly 400 parking spaces and transition assistance. There, we discover that there will be only 200 places left, no transition assistance and it is no longer on two levels but on two floors. “ According to him, the promoter justifies these modifications by technical implementation constraints.
Despite more opening days, these changes worry among the puciers. They are today 400 in Montreuil. “We are already going to have to undergo the years of work and then how are we going to decide who is going to come to the new building. Places are lacking. What procedure are we going to follow? It’s unfair. We especially have the ‘impression that one wants the death of the flea market “, laments Baptiste, whose family has been in the market for four generations.
The threat of legal action
The puciers have decided not to let it go and are getting organized to lead the protest. They have already sent a letter to the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo for “alert” on the situation. They are also in the process of arranging for a lawyer. The puciers threaten to lodge appeals in court if the project is not reviewed.
A meeting at the town hall of the 20th is planned this Wednesday, November 17. It must bring together representatives of the Montreuil flea market, the Paris town hall and elected officials from the arrondissement. The objective is to find compromises to calm the anger of the puciers.
