Faced with images of violence filmed on Saturday May 28 at the entrance to the Stade de France (Seine-Saint-Denis)the British are in shock and the press goes wild. Update with journalist Matthieu Boisseau, live from London.
The British press did not appreciate seeing the supporters of Liverpool (United Kingdom) molested by the French police, during the final of the Champions League at the Stade de France (Seine-Saint-Denis), Saturday June 28. The tabloid The Sun renamed the sports arena on Sunday the “Stuffing Stadium“. As for the Daily Telegraph, it headlines “Police use tear gas against fans“.
“Outrage is widespread here in the UK. The British government and the Liverpool club are calling for an investigation. (…) The mayor of Liverpool explains that the responsibility should not be thrown on the England supporters, and says that their behavior was beyond reproach“, reports journalist Matthieu Boisseau, live from London (United Kingdom). He recalls, however, that “England regularly experiences security problems in its stadiums“. The final of the Euro, in 2021, had been peppered with clashes and 2,000 people had entered without a ticket.
