The American football federation agreed on Tuesday, February 22, to pay the national women’s team at the same level as the men’s team. This promise is written in an agreement signed with a group of players who had sued the federation.

This equality will apply for “all friendly matches and tournaments, including the World Cup”detail the terms of the agreement sent to AFP.

Twenty-eight players from the United States women’s national team, world champion in France in 2019, had filed a class action lawsuit against the discriminatory policy of the American Football Federation, in particular concerning the payment of bonuses. The agreement putting an end to this lawsuit relates to an amount of $24 million. Twenty two will be distributed according to a mode proposed by the players.
