Montreal Alouettes general manager Danny Maciocia was busy at the opening of the Canadian Football League free agent market on Tuesday at noon, quickly signing four players to plug some holes in his roster with a view to the next season.
The Birds thus reached agreements with Quebec running back Sean Thomas Erlington, American wide end Tevin Jones, Canadian defensive lineman Isaac Adeyemi-Berglund and Canadian defensive tackle Derek Wiggan. The duration of the agreements of each of them was not specified, nor the financial details.
Erlington began his CFL career with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2017, after they selected him in the eighth round, 66th overall, in that year’s draft.
The 31-year-old Montrealer completed 191 carries for 1,170 yards and six touchdowns, in addition to catching 63 passes for 631 yards and three additional majors in 65 career games in the Ambrosie circuit.
The former Université de Montréal Carabins, who won the Vanier Cup with Maciocia as head coach in 2014, also participated in the Gray Cup game with the Tiger-Cats in 2021.
“I am extremely happy to bring Sean Thomas back to Montreal. He’s a native here and I’m convinced he’s going to rock with us,” Maciocia said. He is a talented athlete who has excellent acceleration with the ball. With his services, we add depth to our training. »
For his part, Jones caught 65 passes for 882 yards and three touchdowns with the Saskatchewan Roughriders last season.
The 31-year-old Texan played for the Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars during his career south of the border.
For his part, Adeyemi-Berglund played every game for the Calgary Stampeders during the 2022 and 2023 campaigns.
In his CFL career, the 27-year-old Nova Scotian has made 52 tackles, including nine on special teams. He also added 14 sacks and caused a fumble.
Adeyemi-Berglund was selected by the Stamps third overall in the 2020 CFL draft.
Finally, Wiggan will be in his eighth year in the CFL, after seven seasons with the Stampeders.
In 117 career CFL games, the six-foot, 303-pound colossus made 147 tackles, and three others on special teams. The Torontonian also added 16 sacks, an interception to his record, in addition to having caused two fumbles.
Wiggan, who won the Gray Cup with the Stamps in 2018, was the 34th pick in the 2014 Ambrosie Tour draft.
