The Alouettes have found their head coach

The Montreal Alouettes made Jason Maas the 27th head coach in team history on Saturday.

The Sparrows organization confirmed everything in a press release.

The 47-year-old has already worn the colors of the “Als” in 2007, as a substitute quarterback, but it is not in the Quebec metropolis that he has built his fame.

He served as the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ offensive coordinator for the past two years, having coached the Edmonton Eskimos from 2016 to 2019. He went 39-33 with the Alberta team.

Previously, Maas was also the quarterback coach for the Argonauts from 2012 to 2015, winning the Gray Cup in his first year in Toronto.

As a player, he won two championship rings in the Canadian Football League. He has worn the colors of the Eskimos, the Hamilton Tiger Cats and the Alouettes.

“I am very happy to join the big Alouettes family,” Maas said in a statement. The team showed great things last season and I intend to continue and complement the work that Danny [Maciocia] did so that we could be even more successful,” said Maas. I can’t wait to get to work and work hand in hand with the players and the coaches so that we all become better.”

General manager Danny Maciocia was also delighted with this hiring.

“I am extremely happy to be able to hire a coach of Jason’s caliber. He has valuable experience as a head coach in the CFL, in addition to being a true leader of men. Having worked with him during my career and having maintained close contact over the years, I am convinced that Jason is the right person to allow us to continue our ascent.”
