The Alda association is mobilizing for a young couple threatened with eviction from their apartment in Boucau

The rain did not deter them. Twenty activists from the Alda association gathered this Thursday, June 30, 2022 in the city center of Boucau, to help tenants threatened with eviction. The association, which regularly mobilizes against real estate speculation in the Basque Country, has gathered its troops to support a young couple and their three-year-old daughter, who find themselves in a difficult situation. The operation took place peacefully between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Illegal procedure according to Alda

23-year-old Adrien, his partner and their three-year-old daughter have been living since February in a small studio on Place du Colonel-Fabien. The family signed a one-year lease with the landlord. But, according to Adrien, he also had to initial a notice that he must leave the apartment at the end of June to recover it at the start of the school year. “Otherwise I didn’t have the apartment” explains the young apprentice whose partner also works. Also according to the young man, this allows the owner to rent the apartment at a much higher price during the summer season. An illegal procedure according to the Alda association, which mobilized its activists the day a bailiff, appointed by the owner, came to note the actual presence of the tenants.

In an Adla press release “denounces these processes aimed at intimidating tenants who only ask to live normally and find accommodation all year round, without being condemned to become homeless every summer”. The local communist party, as well as the mayor of the commune of Boucau, Francis Gonzales, went there. The whole operation took place peacefully. The couple are staying in their apartment for the time being.
