Climbing, Thursday April 25, at the Sorbonne (Paris), Emmanuel Macron wanted to be alarmist, and he immediately made it known. “Our Europe is mortal. It can die”, he declared at the Sorbonne. To avoid getting there, the president’s ambition comes down to a word hammered out twenty times: “power”. A power that begins with a stronger European defense.
European borders discussed
Two years after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron notably proposed a European preference for the purchase of military equipment, financed by a common loan. Cannons, tanks, planes: their production today largely depends on American industry. The president also addressed European borders and the idea of better controlling them. At the beginning of April, after ten years of negotiations, the European Parliament voted on the pact “asylum and migration”. It provides for simplified asylum procedures, more effective monitoring of migrants, and easier border crossings. An ambition which lacks credibility for the National Rally.
