The rule changes for the second time in three weeks. Vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 now only requires the authorization of one parent, an official from the Ministry of Health announced to the press on Tuesday (January 25th). This development aims to accelerate the rate of injections in this age group.

This is a return to the rule that was established at the end of December, when vaccination was opened to 5-11 year olds. But on January 6, the Ministry of Health announced that the written agreement of both parents of the child became the rule, explaining that it was responding to a request from the Council of State. The ministry did not explain on Tuesday why it no longer considered it necessary to follow up on this request.

Some experts had deemed this constraint unnecessary and counterproductive, including Alain Fischer, head of the Vaccine Strategy Orientation Council: “It’s a bit unfortunate, it’s an obstacle that dramatizes this notion of vaccination a bit”, he said.

Just over 200,000 children under 11 have been vaccinated, out of a total of over five million in France.
