the agglomeration of Cap Atlantique reminds the good gestures not to pollute the water

The sea is always more pleasant when it is clean! In this period conducive to swimming, the agglomeration of Cap Atlantique would like to remind holidaymakers this Sunday of the right actions to avoid polluting the ocean. And to avoid dirtying our beautiful beaches, we must be careful not to confuse a manhole with a rainwater drainage grid.

“Here begins the sea”

Near the new motorhome area of La Baule, boulevard Guy de Champsavin, near the marina, several grids are strewn on the ground. And many holidaymakers take them for manholes. In reality, these are rainwater drainage grids, water which then flows directly into the ocean. Near these gates, messages “Here begins the sea” also encourage walkers not to throw any rubbish there. There are several hundred throughout the city.

Bruno, originally from Limoges, is on vacation in La Baule with his family. Stopped here with his motorhome, he immediately has the right reflex: he uses a drain terminal provided for this purpose. “On the Internet, you can easily spot motorhome areas, he explains. Besides, we don’t do wild camping. As we have been driving in motorhomes for six years, we know and apply the right gestures.”

98 km of coastline and 39 bathing sites in the agglomeration

Taking care of the coast is the mission set by Anabelle Garand, elected representative of the Cap Atlantique conurbation in charge of ecological transition and water quality. Also deputy mayor of La Baule in charge of the environment, she insists on the need to take care of the ocean. “It is important for us that residents and summer visitors become aware of the fragility of our aquatic environment, she explains. Cap Atlantique is a territory rich in exceptional natural heritage, with 98 km of coastline, 39 bathing sites and two salt marshes. This wealth, we must protect and preserve it, and for that, we must aim for excellent water quality at all times.”

Adopt the right gestures

To limit the pollution of the Atlantic Ocean, several good gestures exist, such as for example pick up the excrement of his pets rather than throwing them in the water drainage grids. Disposable bags are made available by the municipalities of Cap Atlantique. Motorhome owners are invited to use the motorhome service areas for their waste water. Cap Atlantique also invites yachtsmen to use the port facilities for oil changes or fairings. The fifteen municipalities of the agglomeration participate in this prevention campaign, including La Baule-Escoublac, Guérande, Le Croisic and Le Pouliguen.
