Parliament adopted on Tuesday, December 19, the immigration bill drafted by the Joint Commission (CMP), a tougher text compared to the initial version. So is this the end of Emmanuel Macron’s “at the same time”? Is it a political fault on the part of the executive which allowed the text to become right-wing to obtain an agreement? Macronist voters answered these questions on Wednesday, December 20 in Vincennes, near Paris, where the head of state was elected in 2022 with 84% of the votes in the second round.

Stéphane, for example, voted for Emmanuel Macron in the first and second rounds. This Vincennois, opposed to the extreme right as well as the extreme left, nevertheless understands the government’s choice to have passed a right-wing text supported by the National Rally. “It’s annoying, he believes. However, it is a strategy to pull the rug out from under the far right. Afterwards, they perhaps go a little far in the process. Above all, I think they don’t have much choice.”.

However, a red line was crossed with this law for those further to the left. This is the point of view of this voter of Emmanuel Macron in the second round.

“This corresponds to the ideology of the extreme right, and that’s no.”

“It’s normal that people are welcomed when they need, when they can no longer stay in their country,” justifies this resident of Vincennes.

Everything suggests that the text voted on Tuesday December 19 is more suitable for right-wing voters. Pascal, close to the Les Républicains party, is satisfied in any case with the immigration law and the president’s position. “He was right to hold on. Even if I didn’t vote for him, he did good things including this law”he assures.

As for the resignation of Aurélien Rousseau, the Minister of Health or the revolt of deputies located to the left of the majority, he is rather happy about it. “Perhaps it’s not the best who leave,” he slips. But in the streets of Vincennes, many of Emmanuel Macron’s voters were not aware of the vote for this law and did not feel concerned.
