The voters of the fourth canton of Amiens will have to return to the polls! The administrative court of Amiens invalidated this Friday the results of the last departmental election in June in this sector of the east of the city, which also includes Longueau or Cagny. Two small voices had allowed the left pair to win. The right-wing pair, which came in second, challenged a dozen votes and the authenticity of the signatures that appeared above.
“At the end of the elections which took place on June 27, 2021, the pair of candidates made up of Jean-Louis Piot and Guillemette Quiquempois had won the vote with a difference of only two votes on the pair made up ofEric Guéant and Isabelle Savariego“, recalls the administrative court in a press release.” This pair disputed the regularity of ten votes because of differences in the signatures affixed to the attendance lists between the first and the second round. “
Doubt about signatures
For seven voters, the court ruled that the differences in signatures were obvious and that “the doubt on the authenticity of the signatures could not be removed by an identity document authenticating the signature of the second round.” The seven irregular votes had to be removed. “These irregularities preventing determine with certainty the outcome of the election in the second round, the court annulled all the electoral operations of June 20 and 27, 2021. “
