The first adaptation on the big screen of Marcel Pagnol’s book “Le temps des secrets” is released in cinemas on Wednesday March 23.
In August 2020, director Christophe Barratier planted his cameras in the Massif de l’Étoile, located in the heart of Provence, on the lands of the writer Marcel Pagnol. An ideal film set to adapt his novel “Le temps des secrets” into images. A cult novel that describes adolescence, the end of carelessness, and the first emotions of love.
Like “My Father’s Glory” and “My Mother’s Castle”, “The Time of Secrets” takes place at the beginning of the 20th century. For the director, these children’s stories have not aged: “It’s also friendly, human and loving relationships that are exactly the same, that’s why Pagnol doesn’t age”, explains Christophe Barratier. In Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), an exhibition is dedicated to the film. For the Marseillais, Marcel Pagnol remains the child of the country, the one who told their city so well.
