Recognized for her originality and her panache, Rossy de Palma will therefore have the task of chairing the jury of this selection which highlights the audacity and spontaneity of directors who are taking their first steps on the Croisette. Actress for Pedro Almodóvar in The Law of Desire, she knew how to distinguish herself by her charisma, petulance and energy, which enabled her to impose herself on the big screen in the long term.
Alternately singer, actress, muse, she is considered an inspiring figure at the Cannes Film Festival, present alongside Pedro Almodóvar in 2009 for the film broken hugs selected in Competition, and in 2016 for Juliet presented in competition as well. She also accompanied Terry Gilliam in 2018 for The Man Who Killed Don Quixote screened at the end of the Festival.
The Camera d’or is a film award given since 1978 during the Cannes film festival to encourage young artists with promising talent. The award was created in 1978 under the aegis of Gilles Jacob, then new general delegate of the festival.
In recent years, the prize has been awarded to notable cinematographic works. In 2018, Lukas Dhont, who appears this year in Competition, won the award for his film Girl. In 2019, the Caméra d’or was awarded to filmmaker César Diaz for his film Our mothers and in 2021 to director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović for Murinacurrently on French screens.
The jury will present its prize during the closing ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday May 28, 2022.
