The Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ), led by Éric Duhaime, recruited actress Anne Casabonne to represent it in the Marie-Victorin by-election.
The news was confirmed at Duty Monday morning after being first revealed by Radio-Canada.
Ms Casabonne sparked controversy in September after she made anti-vaccine comments on social media, including calling the vaccine a ” big shit”.
The by-election, whose date has not yet been announced, aims to replace MNA Catherine Fournier, who was elected mayoress of Longueuil in the fall.
Ms. Casabonne will face candidate Émilie Nollet of the Liberal Party, Shophika Vaithyanathasarma of Québec Solidaire, Pierre Nantel of the Parti Québécois, and Martine Ouellet, who leads a new party called Climat Québec. The identity of the CAQ candidate has yet to be revealed.
The PCQ must officially present its new candidate at a press conference Monday at 1 p.m. This is the first electoral test for the party since being led by former radio host Éric Duhaime.
Its only elected to Parliament for the time being, the defector Claire Samson, has already made it known that she will not stand for re-election.
More details will follow.
