In “Jeanne du Barry”, a film directed by Maïwenn, the American actor who needs no introduction will play one of the main roles of the period drama: King Louis XV.
The pitch of the film presented at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival 2023? “Jeanne Vaubernier, a commoner eager to rise socially, uses her charms to get out of her condition. Her lover Count Du Barry, who is greatly enriched thanks to Jeanne’s lucrative gallantries, wishes to present her to the King. He thus organized the meeting via the influential Duke of Richelieu. This one exceeds his expectations: between Louis XV and Jeanne, it’s love at first sight… With the courtesan, the King rediscovers the taste for life – so much so that he can no longer do without her and decides to ‘to make her his official favourite’.
