“The trigger was not squeezed … I did not squeeze the trigger.” In an excerpt released Wednesday, December 1 by the American channel ABC, the American actor Alec Baldwin returned to the shooting which caused the death Halyna Hutchins, director of photography for the film Rust last october. He ensures that he did not pull the trigger on the revolver he was holding in his hand. The full interview is due to air Thursday evening.

During this interview, Alec Baldwin adds that he did not “no idea” of how live ammunition may have gotten onto the film set, resulting in the accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. “I would never point a gun at someone when pulling the trigger. Never”, he claims. In this interview excerpt, Alec Baldwin does not give more details to explain how the revolver was able to trigger and fire the fatal bullet. The actor was working on a scene where his character draws a gun when Halyna Hutchins was hit.
The weapon in question was supposed to contain only dummy bullets. To the question of knowing how real ammunition could have been in the barrel of the revolver, Alec Baldwin answers: “I have no idea. Someone put a live bullet into a gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be there.” The police investigation continues and, if no arrests have taken place, criminal prosecution is not excluded in the event that responsibilities are established, said the services of the prosecutor of Santa Fe (New Mexico).
