“I will kill you and rape your corpse. Your death will make the news”: a man who allegedly assaulted and threatened his daughter after she refused a forced marriage with her cousin will remain detained. The accused in his fifties also allegedly beat his partner who wanted a divorce.
“The safety of the complainants appears to me to be more than compromised and this is sufficient to conclude my decision,” judge Pierre Labelle ruled on Thursday, citing the dangerousness of the accused. We cannot name the accused and identify the victims due to the involvement of the DPJ in this case.
The alleged acts took place between September 2023 and January 3.
It was last Wednesday that one of the accused’s daughters called the police to report violent acts committed the day before. His father allegedly beat him over his refusal to submit to a forced marriage to his cousin in Turkey.
“This is a marriage which is apparently organized by the accused,” reiterated Judge Labelle in his decision.
Domestic violence and threats
The accused allegedly hit his wife with a belt several times since last fall. She would have announced that she wanted a divorce, according to the summary of the facts.
The father allegedly made violent threats to the women in the family following the 911 call. “I’m going to come back and kill you with a knife. I will cut your bodies into small pieces,” he allegedly said.
He also allegedly told his daughter that he was going to kill her, rape her corpse and that “her death would make the news.” »
“The evidence reveals a desire for violence expressed towards the female members of his family,” summarized the judge.
The mother and daughter returned to the police station after the initial call, accompanied by the family’s son. They then tried to withdraw their complaint. The father was still arrested. The man in his fifties, who will remain behind bars until the end of the proceedings, has no criminal record.
He is prohibited from communicating with the complainants during his detention.
The case will return to court on February 20.
