the Academy of Corsica is “not in tension”, affirms its rector, Jean-Philippe Agresti

The Minister of National Education announced it on November 10: faced with a lack of candidates for teacher recruitment competitions in the first and second degree for the start of the 2023 school year, registrations are extended for two weeks
, until December 2. In Corsica, “we must remain vigilant”explains Jean-Philippe Agresti, the rector, but the Academy is not “not in tension”. “National Education is not the only area of activity that is encountering recruitment difficulties”he adds.

Even if Corsica does not encounter the same difficulties as the continent, Jean-Philippe Agresti believes that it “is good to extend this period [d’inscription aux concours] to raise awareness of the teaching profession. For the rector, the competition facing the profession is tough, at a time when the population is looking “the best job opportunities”. Added to this is the media coverage of cases that sometimes affect teachers “while the teaching profession is other than that”he insists.

“Some realize after one to three years that the job does not correspond to what they expected”, notes Jean-Marc Pupponi, representative of the SNES FSU in Corsica and professor of History Geography in Ajaccio. Among the difficulties encountered: more and more administrative tasks, more and more students in the same class, or even a management approaching that of the private sector.
