Quebec Minister of Education, Bernard Drainville, announced Thursday that he would present on January 9 the academic catch-up plan intended for students who missed school days due to public sector strikes.
Mr. Drainville said he was currently finalizing the plan after having held a series of meetings in recent days as well as during the holiday season. “They took place with ministry teams, representatives of school service centers, school principals, parent committees, unions, etc. “, he clarified.
The two main Montreal school service centers — that of Montreal and that of Marguerite-Bourgeoys — confirmed on December 30 that classes will resume on Tuesday, January 9, according to the schedule in effect in each establishment.
The Autonomous Federation of Education, which represents 66,500 teachers, announced on December 28 that it had reached an agreement in principle with the employer side, which put an end to its indefinite general strike launched on November 23. The Common Front, which represents 420,000 workers, agreed the same day with Quebec on a proposed agreement in principle on the salary conditions of its members.
