The 850 blue-collar workers in Laval walk out on Tuesday

The 850 blue-collar workers in the City of Laval launched a 24-hour strike on Tuesday.

On April 26, blue-collar workers voted 96% in favor of a pressure tactics mandate that could go as far as a strike.

The president of the Laval Blue Collar Union (CUPE 4545), Louis-Pierre Plourde, explains the work stoppage by the closure, contempt and lack of transparency of representatives of the Labor Relations Department at the negotiating table. The union is demanding the intervention of the mayor, Stéphane Boyer, denouncing that the conflict has been festering for several years.

The union claims that the blockage in its talks with the City has continued for months and reports that approximately a thousand grievances have been undermining the daily lives of dozens of blue-collar workers for years.

The union members intend to demonstrate on the day the municipal council is held and they will march in the streets of Laval to city hall at the end of the afternoon.

The 24-hour blue-collar strike begins on the 50the Blood drive for Laval residents taking place at Place Bell, the arena of the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League (AHL). Donors will have the opportunity to meet Rocket players who will visit the premises at different times throughout the day.

The president of the Laval Blue Collar Union and several union members will welcome the donors to give them a leaflet explaining the reasons for their one-day strike.
