She has not always had an easy life… As she revealed on France Bleu this Tuesday, December 26, 2023, the singer Nicoletta, who will celebrate her 80th birthday in a few weeks, could very well have died at the age of 20. Indeed, following the sudden death of her mother, the young singer, in shock, attempted to end her life by swallowing a large dose of medicinal pills. An action which was not without consequences since the young woman fell into a coma and remained there for more than a week: “I was so shocked that I took pills and wanted to join her. I had taken two tubes of medicine and the wall phone rang. I answered and it remained hanging along the wall. The receptionist forced the door open, she needed her line, and they found me. They took me to the hospital and I found a wonderful doctor. I was in a coma for eight daysbut it’s interesting the coma” remembers the singer, sixty years later.
The one who grew up without her father had to relearn everything to also learn to live without her mother, to whom she dedicated the title Mamy Blue, which was her biggest artistic success: “When my mother died, I received a telegram announcing her death and I was very shocked. I took the night train at Gare de Lyon by convincing myself that my grandmother wanted me to see her and that she was not dead. Unfortunately, I arrived and saw everyone crying. They were just waiting for me to cover his coffin. It was very, very hard. I endured the whole family, the mass, and I came back the next day because I was working. It was terrible” explains the singer.
His mother, who died of cancer, had “mental retardation”
Nicoletta’s mother actually died in 1964 after only a few months of battling cancer. A “injustice” for the young 20-year-old singer, who revealed a few years ago to Le Parisien that her mother, who died suddenly at the age of 40, had had to fight throughout her life against mockery due to a slight mental retardation which benefited her father, whom she then accused of sexual abuse : “My mother, Jeanne, suffered from mental retardation and my father, her childhood friend, abused her innocence during a ball on July 14 (…) I knew nothing about it for a long time, but I quickly realized that she was not a mother like the others, with the mind of a child in the body of a young girl. My father did not recognize me. At school, I suffered humiliations which forged my character. (…) I had to tame my pain and learn to thrive.”.
