San Francisco, Boston, Chicago or Miami: American airports are boycotted by airlines like Emirates.

Radical decision and growing concern in the United States, faced with the deployment of the telephone network 5G near the tarmacs: several major companies, such as Emirates, have decided to boycott American airports. The ground waves from 5G antennas would be likely to interfere with essential on-board instruments for landing aircraft in bad weather. The risk : momentarily scramble the signals, as Xavier explains Tytelman, aeronautical expert.

The American aviation sector fears cascading cancellations. For the main pilots’ union, passenger safety is non-negotiable. “We don’t want to be the leader in 5G to the detriment of air safety”, explains one of its representatives, Joe Depete. Following pressure from the sector, the telephone operators have agreed to temporarily postpone the deployment of new frequencies near the runways. In France, antenna power has been reduced around 17 airports, to limit the risk of disruption to aircraft.
