“Discoveries and glitter”, this is the promise of the 2023 edition of D’Jazz Nevers which runs until November 18. Throughout the program, international big names like American guitarist Bill Frisell mix with young talents like the duo Bize, mixing wind instruments in a sonic journey. The identity of the festival was forged thanks to the unexpected encounters of artists of all renown. “I like to say that it’s a bit of a family. The artists are present, interacting with each other and with professionals”explains Roger Fontanel, president of the festival.

Crossroads of the arts

With its loyal audience, the programming continues to surprise the curious by positioning itself at the crossroads of the arts, like Pessoa: Intranquility. This musical reading by actor Frédéric Pierrot created in 2007, in tandem with the drums of Christophe Marguet, was transformed into a trio. Double bassist Claude Tchamitchian joins the dance to create a new work. Bold choices to attract a diverse audience.

“There are several entry keys to allow all spectators to discover jazz, while breaking the cliché which asserts that it is elitist music.”

Roger Fontanel, president of the festival

Musical passport

Multiculturalism is also there this year. Artists from all over the world will come to make Nevers vibrate. The group African Jazz Roots, born in 2009 from a meeting between a French drummer and a Senegalese kora player, will play his latest energetic album Seetu, on November 17. To close the festivities in style, Cuban cellist Ana Carla Maza, accompanied by her four musicians, will reveal their dancing notes to give a Latin American feel to Burgundy.
