Powder at a much more affordable price than cocaine, 3-MMC seems to be gaining ground in France in recent months. A synthetic drug that circulates very easily.
It circulated all summer in parties, bars or private homes. Sold from 10 to 30 euros per gram against 60 to 80 for cocaine, 3-MMC is the drug of the moment. Julien consumes it regularly, attracted by its price, he uses it to intensify his sexual relations during weekends that insiders call “Chemsex”, a sexual marathon under chemical influence. “We settle into a bubble that will allow us to uninhibit ourselves. We enter a tunnel and during this time nothing exists, all our problems, all our difficulties, all our pains disappear“, testifies this quarantine.
A synthetic drug is illegal in France, but remains easily accessible. It is produced in large quantities in laboratories, mainly in Asia, and is sold on the Internet and delivered to homes by discreet parcels. “The risks of a drug like 3-MMC are cardiovascular and neurological risks. And next to that, psychiatric disorders“, denounces Professor Amine Benyamania, head of the addiction service at the Paul-Brousse hospital (APHP). Since 2008, around twenty deaths have occurred in France because of this substance.
